Hampton Roads Flute Faire 2020!

Flutists helping flutists...for 27 years!

Join us for a grand celebration of 20 years of Hampton Roads Flute Faire!  Returning to lead our celebration is Flute Faire founder, Laurie Baefsky, currently a doctoral student at SUNY Purchase studying with internationally famous flutist Carol Wincenc. This year's spotlight is on the amazing flutists of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, led by the impeccable playing of  Debra Wendells Cross, Principal Flutist for 31 years.  She will be joined by the current Hampton Roads Flute Faire Coordinator and Second Flute, Joanne White, who is in her 17th year with the VSO.  Meet and enjoy hearing the newest VSO addition, Rachel Ordaz, Peabody Masters candidate and piccolo specialist, who moved to Norfolk this fall.  You have heard their beautiful playing and ensemble work for years with the VSO.  Now hear them perform gems of the solo and flute quartet repertoire.

A new addition this year is a mock orchestra audition and master class with three former Flute Faire winners. Returning to their roots are Sarah Howard Carter, a flutist with the US Air Force in Atlanta; Melanie Libbey, a graduate student at Duquesne University in Pittsburg; and Marla Smith, a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University and Aspen Festival flutist last summer.  All three were winners in multiple divisions of the elementary through college Flute Faire competitions in their days of growing up in the Hampton Roads area.

Come relive our past and celebrate our future through concerts, flute choir events, master classes, and exhibitors at the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Building on the campus of Old Dominion University.

You won't want to miss this special year!
